Mauka Mauka advertisement campaign had mixed reactions for the cricket fans in India and Pakistan. The add used the historic rivalry between Pakistan and India to advertize the Indian Cricket team’s oncoming matches that would be aired by Stars Sports. The ad showed a Pakistani cricket supporter, adorned in the Pakistani jersey expectantly waiting for a win against India since 1992 with a box of crackers. The ad shows a transition from 1992 till 2015 and sends a message to the Pakistani fans that this dream was never going to happen.
A series of ads under the Mauka Mauka slogan were launched for every match of India, displaying the Pakistani cricket fan adorned in different jerseys supporting a win against India in any case. The Add may not have been launched with an intention to fuel the Pakistani fan’s sentiments, but it did seem to o the trick. Especially after Pakistan’s exit from the world Cup tournament, the ad seemed to send a different message. The ad also seemed to induce a false confidence among the audience of India’s certain win, and with every Indian victory, the sense seemed to intensify even more.
The Indian defeat against Australia however gave the Pakistani Cricket fans an excellent chance to use the ad campaign to their advantage, when the slogan “Mauka Mauka’ was used to mock the Indian defeat and its exit from the world cup tournament. So at the end, the add served the purpose of both the sides and the Pakistani cricket fan shown in the ad campaign finally got his wish, although there was no such addition to the ad campaign in this case.
