Colombo: West Indies beat Sri Lanka by 27 runs in the final match of T20 World Cup 2012 on Sunday. West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first. Chris Gayle, who was expected to perform heavily like he did in Semi Final against Australia got out early. West Indies only managed a total of 138 runs on the board.
Marlon Samuels played a vital innings of 78 runs and took the team out of trouble after Gayle`s wicket felt earlier. Sammy, the captain also hit some plundering shorts in the last over and increased the total and run rate of his team.
In response, Sri Lankans failed to face the West Indies bowling attack and kept on loosing wickets. Mahela Jayawadene, the captain of the Sri Lankan team resigned from his post after this huge defeat. Samuels was awarded as the Man Of The Match and Australian Shane Watson was declared Man of The Tournament.
