Sindh assembly has passed a bill for provision of free and compulsory education to all those children who are aged between five and 16 in the province. Pir Mazharul Haq Provincial Minister of Education and Literacy presented the bill which is named as ‘Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Bill 2013’. The bill was passed unanimously passed into the law by assembly. According to this bill, any parent who will fail to enroll his child in school may be fined up to Rs. 5,000 or with imprisonment up to three months.
Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq while presenting the bill said that under the bill all private schools will also be bound to provide free education to 20 percent of the students of each class. He further said that those private schools which are not getting any benefit from government will have to enroll five percent students for free education.
According to different teachers who are working in private school this is a good step and it will help poor children also to get enroll in private schools. One teacher of a highly esteemed private school said that if all the owners of private school implement this decision this will benefit many students who are not able get quality education.
