Pakistan Railways is a national state owned rail transport service of Pakistan that is a major mode of transport between the cities of Pakistan. The Pakistan railway has its headquarters in Lahore and operates under the authority of the federal government under the ministry of Railways. The basic railway infrastructure was laid down in the British era, when Sir Henry Edward Frere saw the potential of Karachi becoming a major seaport. He was appointed the Commissioner of Sindh and sought permission from Lord Dalhousie to start a survey for a railway line in 1858. Now the Pakistan Railways is generating Rs 25 billion worth of revenue and is connecting major cities of Pakistan.[junkie-alert style=”white”]The Pakistan Railway Authority has their own phone line 117, so that the citizens can contact the department for inquiries.
