Karachi: Acting Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Karachi Barjees Ahmed has welcomed the decision of Election Commission of Pakistan to dismiss provincial Election Commissioner Sono Khan Baloch from his post. In a statement issued here yesterday, Ahmed has termed the said decision ‘a pleasant step’ towards the preparation of transparent voters’ lists adding the situation will remain the same if the previous mistakes would be repeated.
He further said it was the prime duty of the provincial election commissioner to prepare transparent electoral rolls for free and fair elections, but unfortunately, the former provincial election commissioner found guilty towards fulfilling his duties and attempts were being made to deprive 2.5million voters from their right to vote.
Ahmed stressed upon the need to appoint new provincial election commissioner on merit who immediately fulfill the SC verdict in order to rectify the voters’ lists.
