Radioactive uranium is very dangerous for health, every country which extracts uranium is responsible for maintaining international safety standards to protect people from being affected but it seems that Indian government doesn’t care about its citizens.
Jadugoda was once a beautiful, green and peaceful area but everything changed after uranium was discovered in nearby mines. The mining industry provided jobs for the community but no one knew the price.
Now mining workers are dying because of cancer and other diseases, their children are born with different health issues congenital deformity & Cerebral Palsy being the most common. Because of this mining Jadugoda has become a city of nightmares.
Laxmi Das lost her 8 children after birth, only her ninth child survived but he is also affected by Cerebral Palsy. She is not the only women in the area many others have also lost countless children.
The uranium miners don’t follow any safety precautions, they even don’t know what risky job they are doing. The Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) also releases the waste in a lake which has become a continuous source of radioactivity in the area.
