Karachi: The suicide blast attack here at the Rangers Headquarters in Nazimabad on Thursday morning has left as many as two people dead including Rangers personnel while around 25 people have sustained serious injuries, sources told. According to sources, the blast occurred when an unidentified car was deliberately smashed at the gate of headquarter 2 located at North Nazimabad-Block B.
IG Sindh Fayyaz Leghari has confirmed that it was a suicide blast adding that a mini truck had been used in the assault. It is also been told that around 100kg of explosives were used in the blast.
The media reports say that building’s two storied structure was badly damaged in the high intensity blast and fire swiftly spread across the building which has resulted in the demolition of one component of the building.
The sources say that injured includes five civilians while the rest were Sachal Rangers personnel. The injured and dead have been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital for medical treatment while few Rangers personnel are rushed to PNS Shifa. One security personnel is said to be in a very critical condition.
While talking to media, one of the injured Rangers’ personnel Mohammad Farooq narrated that the security personnel had just sat down after offering Fajr prayers when the blast took place.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Rehman Malik has ordered DG Rangers to submit a report about the attack. Many Provincial and National leaders have condemned the attack.
