King Willem Alexander worked as a co-pilot for Dutch airline KLM for 21 years; previously he worked for air carrier Martin air.
The Dutch king worked as a guest pilot for 23 years which means he worked only twice a month. He was co-pilot of Fokkers but now he will be flying Boeing 737s because Fokkers are being removed from service.
50 year old king has royal duties to perform yet he took time for working as a pilot, saying that it was my hobby. Talking with media he said:
“You have an aircraft, passengers and crew. You have responsibility for them. You can’t take your problems from the ground into the skies. You can completely disengage and concentrate on something else. That, for me, is the most relaxing part of flying.”
Most people at the airport didn’t recognize the King of Netherlands in the uniform and cap. Though it was known that he is a qualified pilot but no one knew that he also worked as guest pilot.
