Students of Karachi University are forced to live in languishing sate because of the deteriorating condition of Girls Hostel which is in need of administration attention.
The capacity of the hostel is for 108 students only but currently 208 students are living in the hostel. 20 students from Balochistan and Sindh are living in the dining room. It is because applications were accepted despite no place was available in the hostel. Hostel provost Sobia Shahzad said that this year admissions will only be accepted if space will be available.
There is no proper drainage system of water in the building and no security is provided despite being a female hostel where students from other cities and countries are staying to complete their education.
Student claims that attendance is also not maintained and lunch is not being provided to students. Previously the hostel provided breakfast, lunch & dinner but now they are only providing breakfast & dinner.
Trash and waste can be seen in and around the hostel building reflecting that the administration of University of Karachi failed to maintain a clean and healthy environment. Photos of the depreciating building were also shared by students on social media, they also claim that complain was lodged on more than one occasions yet no action was taken.
Sobia Shahzad revealed that she is aware of the problems of the students and had discussed these issues with the Vice Chancellor but there is lack of funds to take all measures.
