In Pakistan the first case of Chikungunya was recorded as early as 1983 but it was limited to few cases and there was no outbreak which caused serious health issues. But in November 2016 Pakistan faced the Chikungunya problem for the first time after an outbreak in the city of Karachi.
People didn’t knew what Chikungunya was, how it affects the victim and what should be done to prevent the spread as a result at least 30,000 people were affected.
What is Chikungunya?
It is a disease cause by Chikungunya virus which spreads through Aedes Mosquitoes, there is no vaccination and no proper treatment for the disease.
What are the symptoms of Chikungunya?
- High fever
- Severe Joint pain which increases with each passing day until the patient can’t walk on his own.
- Muscle pain & headache
- Fatigue
- Rashes
The virus is spread through the same mosquito through which dengue is spread, the only way to prevent the disease is to prevent mosquito reproduction. If affected the person should be isolated so no other mosquito bites the patient and becomes infected.
