Is it allowed for a muslim to leave his country and settle in western countries? Can he permanently settle there? Such questions usually confuse people who are thinking to go in a developed country for better education or a more luxurious life.
A person asked the same question to Sheikh Saalih and asked about the Islamic ruling on this topic. Sheikh responded that muslims are allowed to go there for better education, or for business trip or to get health treatment.
Regarding permanently settling he said that the basic ruling is that muslims should not settle among non-muslims in their countries, because Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“I disown every Muslim who settles among the mushrikeen.” Narrated by Abu Dawood, 2645
But there are some exceptions for settling among non-muslims such as he fear for his life in his country, or the war in his country forced him to migrate but even in such situations he should prefer other muslim countries rather than a non-muslim country.
