Dhaka: The ice between Pakistan and Bangladesh seems might get melt now as Bangladesh on Friday demanded an official apology from Pakistan for the war crimes committed by West Pakistan troops during the 1971 liberation war, but Islamabad insisted that it’s time to carry forward the relations “burying the past”. These negotiations might help both the Muslim countries to move ahead building brotherly relations again.
During a meeting between Bangladeshi and Pakistani Foreign Ministers, Foreign Minister Bangladesh Dipu Moni asked her Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar to apologize for the killings saying, “Bangladesh expects an apology from Pakistan for the genocide carried out by their troops in 1971”.
The Bangladeshi Ministry officials quoted her that she also highlighted the need for resolving the other outstanding issues with Pakistan.
In response, Quayes said, the Pakistani foreign minister said since 1974 Islamabad “at different times and different manners expressed its regret for the 1971 incidents”.
