General Asim Bajwa is the current director general of the Inter-Services Public relations (ISPR) which is the branch of the military responsible for communication and coordination between the military and the civil society. The ISPR is usually headed by a 2 star army officer who is also the chief spokesperson for the army.
The ISPR is a part of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Secretariat and its main function is to strengthen the army’s public image and gain national support for the army. This in turn helps to boost the morale of the armed forces in order to help them accomplish their objectives better.
General Asif Bajwa was comissiioned in the 34th Punjab Regiment in 1984. He is a distinguished officer of the Pak Army and has held command of various units including Anti-Tank Battalion, an infantry brigade unit and has been the chief of staff of a strike corps. He is also the recipient of Tamgh-e-Basalat.
