Tell us about yourself and team behind 3 Idiots?
We are just three friends (Hammad, Kashan and Faisal) who met in Sir Syed university. By profession we are software engineers. We started to make short videos & uploaded them to our Facebook profiles. The response was good so we decided to create a page for it and our journey began. Having lost the first 2 initial pages, now we have more than 280,000 Fans on our Page. We mostly make funny videos with a hidden message in it.
What was the reason to start 3 Idiots? Any inspiration?
There was no specific reason. We loved to act and make parodies of different celebrities. We were always fond of movies and watched it in a way that how can they shoot this thing?
What difficulties have you faced when starting your work?
At first we got no experience no knowledge of film making at all. We just had a small digital cam and started shooting from that as a result video quality and voice were not good, we also lacked in video editing process which was amateur and it doesn’t mean that we are professionals now but we improved a lot and learnt so many things during our journey.
Do you people earn from these videos or it is only for your passion?
Technically NO, we don’t earn anything from our videos. It’s just our hobby and passion, although, we have won several prizes and money in different short film making competitions.
Which social media platforms you are using other than Facebook?
None right now. We had a YouTube channel but it isn’t operative since it was banned.
Which is your best video till date?
Personally, we love our videos “Message in a Bottle” and “Bomb Bomb Phatta”. Both videos won many prizes because of their original story. Other than that our followers like our “Puppa Series” of which we have made 14 parts till now and all of them are original and full of decent humor.
How 3 Idiots is different than other Pakistani Entertainers?
Everyone is doing their best work and we are proud to see that, but we try to make a video with a proper story and characters in it with fun and a positive thought behind it.
[junkie-alert style=”white”]Facebook is the only marketing platforms which we are using currently [/junkie-alert]
Are you using hi-tech cameras/audio devices for your videos?
70% of our videos are done with a small digital cam. Then we won a DSLR and switched to it but still we haven’t achieved a quality that we want to produce.
What is your view on YouTube blockage in Pakistan and how it is hurting entertainers like you?
It doesn’t matter to us. An entertainer will show his talent anywhere he can reach.
Who is your competitor in Pakistan?
This isn’t a competition. We just wanna make videos as our hobby and passion but we try to compete with our previous works.
What is your message for young Pakistanis who are willing to make videos like you?
Keep it short and clear. Don’t expect to come out with a bang. It takes time and hard work to reach a certain goal. Gather your audience patiently.
