Washington: The DeWeaponization campaign led by the Sindh government with a heavy expenditure of Rs 3 Crore finally came to an end yesterday. The metropolis Karachi, where resides more than 2 Crore population, after 15 days led campaign yielded with an ineffective results. Only 16 weapons had been recovered from the past days, sources have reported.
A released statement by the Interior ministry stated submission of four rifles, seven pistols, five shot guns, eight magazines and 200 bullets in various police stations of the city during the de-weaponisation campaign.
The campaign aimed at eradicating the illegal possessions of the ammunitions, began last month on September 26 and ended on October 12. The Sindh government had heavily spent to run the campaign but the weapons recovered as a result are less fruitful. Only 16 weapons submission costs the provincial government with each fire arm costing around 18 million.
Sharjeel Memon further stated that free hand has been given to the rangers and law enforcement agencies to tackle the situation, while after the campaign police forces and rangers would take actions against the anti-social elements.
It is pertinent here to mention that the Sindh government had run advertisements on print and electronic media for the campaign to acknowledge the people about the motive of the work. People were urged to submit the illegal weapons without being held charged.
