Wikipedia is organizing a photography competition focusing on the cultural heritage and historical sites of Pakistan. This competition is being held for the first time in Pakistan and is a part of a worldwide photography competition titled Wiki Loves Monuments. The Wiki Loves Monuments competition is the worlds largest photography competition as recorded by the Guinnes World Records and this is the first time Pakistan is going to be a part of this great inititative.
The Wiki Loves Monuments is organized by volunteer editors of Wikipedia. The aim of the competition is to highlight and promote the cultural heritage and historical sites of all the countries that take part. The pictures of these historically significant places and heritage sites are put under a free license and can be used by anyone after that. This helps promote the sites and lets people enjoy them without worrying about copyright restrictions.
The photographs will be judged by a panel of experts and graded according to the quality, creativity and overall value of the image to Wikipedia. The top ten entries will be featured in exhibitions and there will also be cash prizes for the winners. The first position photograph will get Rs 20000 while the second, third ,fourth and fifth will get Rs 15,000, 10000 and 5000 respectively. The best photos from the Pakistani competition will be nominated for the global competition
