Wasim Akram was born on 3rd June 1966 in Lahore. He started his cricket career from Lancashire Country Cricket club where he became a fan favourite and Lancashire’s most successful overseas player. It was there he was noticed by Javed Miandad who was impressed by his pace and swing.
Wasim Akram made his Test debut in 1985 and picked up 10 wickets in only his second Test proving his talent. He was paired with the legendary Imran Khan and under his guidance he developed into a lethal swing bowler. He played a vital part in Pakistan’s World Cup success in 1992 and became Pakistan’s premier bowler.
Wasim Akram holds many records. He is the highest wicket taker in World Cups with 55 wickets in 38 matches. He is one of the only three bowlers who have taken 4 hat tricks in International Cricket. He is Pakistan’s highest wicket taker in Test matches and the first bowler to take 400 wickets in both Tests and ODIs. Due to his extraordinary control and swing he has earned the title of Sultan of Swing.
