Karachi: The Vice Chancellor of NED University, city’s premier Engineering University, Engineer Abul Kalam will be leaving the key post of Vice Chancellor of NED on 9th December after holding the post for the record tenure of 16 years. December 9, 2012 will be the last day of Abul Kalam as the VC of University.
The veteran, 90, also holds the record of being the oldest man to held the responsibility of University’s VC who all through his 16 years tenure sternly faced political and opponents’ pressures.
He was appointed as the VC of NED University on 10thDecember, 1996 by former Governor Sindh Kamal Azfar During his tenure, he set the example of maintaining strict discipline in the university and expelled out many students involved in violent clashes in the university premises.
When he was designated at the key post of Karachi’s only engineering University years ago, there were only eight departments in the university that have now raised up to 25 departments. Abul Kalam’s tenure as VC NED is regarded as the Golden period in university’s history.
