Pakistan’s Blasphemy Law is once again under highlight after US representative in Geneva asked Pakistan to repeal the law. This appeal was made during the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
UK representative Miriam Shearman also sided with USA and asked Pakistan to change its stance on religious minorities. She recommended that there should be electoral roll without any religious discrimination for minorities.
Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif was representing Pakistan and he made the opening and closing remarks. The recommendations of UPR are not binding on Pakistan and Khawaja Asif will reveal which recommendations Pakistan is going to accept.
India also used the forum to make propaganda against Pakistan and said that Pakistan should end illegal & forcible occupation of Azad Kashmir. Indian representative Sumit Seth accused Pakistan of supporting terrorism through their safe havens and sanctuaries in Azad Kashmir.
