Islamabad: Lahore High Court has restricted Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (PEMRA) to take serious action against Urdu1 TV Channel. Justice Ayesha Malik ordered PEMRA to warn all those channels who are running Indian content more than quota allowed. According to details, five Pakistani entertainment TV channel filed complaint against URDU1 Channel. Geo Entertainment, HUM TV, Express Entertainment, ARY Digital and TVOne were among those five channels.
These five channels told court that PEMRA restricted them to show Indian Content not more than 6% but Urdu 1 channels is violating these terms. In response, court directed PEMRA that if Urdu1 will not follow this order then ban its transmission. URDU1 is a foreign TV Channel which is getting popularity among Pakistani women. It’s looking that after Urdu1 Launch in this June, many local channels observed it as threat.
PEMRA told court that we allowed that channel to on-air dubbed dramas of other countries except India. All channels have same rule regarding, Indian content percentage. PEMRA also clarified that we are treating Indian content like this due to Indian Govt Policies regarding Pakistani TV Channels. Until India allows Pakistani TV channels in its country, we will apply this percentage formula, PEMRA argue.
Last month PEMRA reported that that Public Complaints against URDU1 channel were on top. A source told that, URDU1 is not responding to PEMRA notices and that’s why channel can face hard time in Pakistan.
