Karachi: Tehreek-e-Taliban Punjab has claimed the responsibility for the attack on senior journalist Hamid Mir, Geo TV anchor and journalist was on his way to his office from the airport when he was attacked by the four gunmen on motorbikes fired at Mr. Mir’s car and he was hit by three bullets.
Tehreek –e-Taliban has accepted the responsibility for the attack on the senior reporter and television anchorperson on Twitter where Punjabi Taliban spokesman has tweeted that
Omar Khorasani Deobandi of TTP-ASWJ in his statement on Twitter has said that Hamid Mir was an enemy of Islam and Deobandi Mujahideen, thus attack on him was justified. Whereas he also added that there are certainly many differences with Hamid Mir but they are not involved in the attack.
It is important to mention that friends and colleagues said Mir had previously told them that if he is attacked, Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), “and its chief Lt General Zaheerul Islam will be responsible”.
Mir is now reported to have recovered consciousness and hospital admin say his condition is out of danger. This is not the first time an attempt has been made on Mir’s life as Mir was closely escaped a bid on his life when the bomb disposal squad defused a bomb planted under his car in Islamabad.
Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan in November 2012 claimed responsibility for the attack on senior journalist Hamid Mir a day earlier and warned of more attacks on anyone pursuing the secular agenda.
