Igorot Tribe in the mountainous region of northern Philippine hangs the bodies of their dead relatives on mountains. This tradition of hanging the coffin rather than burial is centuries old in this region of Philippine.
You may think what is the motivation behind taking the bodies to the height of the mountain and then hanging them on ropes or by nailing them on cliff? They believe that hanging them higher on the mountain will give them higher place in the hereafter.
It is believed that are other reasons too for this burial process, such as they may have feared from animals which may have eaten their dead corpses. Some believe that it was because they thought under the earth they will rot quickly so they wanted to remain longer in this world.
It is not the only awkward tribe to do so, in china and other parts of world the same thing is done.
