Colombo: Sir Syed University lost to University of Colombo by 5 wickets here on Thursday in the inaugural Red Bull Campus Cricket Champions. Now, to appear in the Finals, team Sir Syed University has to defeat much stronger opponent Rizvia University of India in the last group match.
Sir Syed while batting first in the first match, scored 131 runs with a lost of 9 wickets in a rain affected 10 overs game, Waqas Mehboob being the top scorer made 40 runs with the help of 5 massive sixes. Arshad Khan scored 29, Azam Khan 24 while Saad Maqsood scored 25 timely runs to make their team reach to a defendable target.
In reply, Sri Lankan team scored 25 runs in the very first over by Pakistan’s captain Ali Mehr and then the team continued to tumble and lose the grip in the whole match. Kisan Wije Gunawardhene made the match look very easy for the Lankans, scoring a brilliant 70 runs, leading the team to victory.
Meanwhile, Colombo University didn’t manage to carry on the same touch in a match against India’s Rizvia University, loosing by a huge margin of 89 runs. The next match is scheduled to play today and to reach the tournament’s Final Pakistan has to beat Rizvia University at the CCC grounds.
The Asian Finals of Red Bull Campus Cricket (RBCC) started from the 25th April and continue till 28th of April.
