Shahid Afridi was invited recently to a comedy sports show hosted by Omer Sharif called as ‘Har Lamha Purjosh’. Omer Sharif asked the recently retired Shahid Afridi about his reaction after watching the Indian team lose to Australia in the semi-finals of the World Cup 2015, to which Afridi responded by singing his own version of the Mauka Mauka ad. The audience burst out laughing to this response and Omer Sharif continued with the fun by adding more of his witty comments and his own version of another Indian song to mock the Indians.
The Mauka Mauka song has created an effect on both the Pakistanis and Indians that was never expected before. The song was perceived as India’s overconfidence and pride in their ability to win, but after they lost to Australia in the semi-finals, the song was hit back to them as sarcasm for their misfortune.
India’s defeat against Australia was unfortunate this time, as both the Bangladeshi and Pakistani cricket fans got a chance to relish their sadness over their team’s exit from the tournament by rejoicing at India’s defeat through their own song ‘Mauka Mauka’. The song seemed to elevate the anguish of the Pakistani and Bangladeshi fans, especially after their teams didn’t make it to the semi-finals and India did. Many fans decided to irritate BCCI by making prank calls and singing the ill-famed song.
