Lahore: Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi has rejected a British newspaper report regarding the match-fixing. The Sun newspaper had claimed that Shahid Afridi and Umar Akmal were offered spot-fixing in the series against England in 2011-12 which was rejected by these two cricketers.
According to reports, both players declined the offer during the series against England in UAE and immediately informed the ICC’s anti-corruption unit and team management. Shahid Afridi while rejecting the reports said that no bookie had offered him during the series of 2012 in UAE. The newspaper, referring to the close sources of the team claims that a man in the lobby accessed Shahid Afridi at the team’s hotel but Afridi did not want to hear him. Somewhat the present board Chairman Najam Sethi at a recent press conference also confirmed the claim but Shahid Afridi rejected the reports about bookmakers for making approaches to him.

Earlier the 3 Pakistani cricketers Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir has been charged for match fixing against England in 2010 at the notorious Lord’s Test and have been punished by the Crown Prosecution Service of obtaining and accepting corrupt payments, and conspiracy to cheat.
