9 bad-tempered players had gone to the jail as some of them had to stay in the jail for nights after their arrests and some of them had to stay in jail for a long time while on of them is still punishable in jail for a serious crime. According to the British newspaper “Daily Mirror”, the cricketers who faced imprisonment due to the various charges are Indian spinner Navjot Singh Sidhu, South African fast bowler Makhaya Ntini, British pacer Chris Royal, batsman Jeff Bigot, spinner Phil Tufnel, Australian cricketer Luke Palmer Sabrok, Pakistan former wicket-keeper Moin Khan, batsman Ijaz Ahmed and batsman Umar Akmal.
It is pertinent to mention that those players who were involved in the match fixing are not included in that given list of cricketers. According to the report, Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, who judges comedy Indian shows, had murdered one man after doing violence on him in 1988. Former Indian cricketer during an argument on the matter of parking issue had beaten with his friends the 66-years old man named Girnaam Singh who had died in the hospital due to the harsh violence on him by the cricketer.
In December, 2006 the Indian Punjab and Haryana High Court has sentenced 3 years imprisonment and charged 1 Lakh rupees for unintentionally murder to Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu. However he had appealed against this decision in the Supreme Court, after which his punishment was ended. Before this he had sent to the Patiala jail during the investigation of the murder by the Punjab Court where he was released on the guarantee after passing some days in the jail.
On the other hand, South African fast bowler Makhaya Ntini has also gone to the jail in the case of abused, according to the AFP fast bowler Makhaya Ntini has been sentenced 6 years imprisonment in 1999 in the allegation of rape of teenager girl. Due to which he faced many days in the jail whereas his lawyer has appealed against his punishment after which his appeal was accepted. Makhaya Ntini who played 101 test matches and 173 one day had released in the October, 1999 from jail. In May, 2009 pacer Chris Royal was also arrested due to the smuggling of drugs and sentenced for 13 years imprisonment as he represented the English team since 1990 to 1998. According to the Daily Mirror, Chris Royal was arrested at the Gatwick airport where police found drugs worth rupees 2 Lakh Pound as he is passing his punishment in the HMP HIGH DOWN jail.
In 1998, batsman Jeff Bigot was accused in the crime of violence on his girlfriend as France Court had sent him to the jail for 3 months. Likewise spinner Phil Tufnel was also arrested in the charge of misbehaving with the waiter as he had to stay in the jail for one night. According to the report, Australian cricketer Luke Palmer Sabrok, went to the jail due to the misbehaving with woman and violent act on her friend during the IPL, 2012.
Pakistani cricket players also have to go through the arrests due to the several allegations, according to the report the chief selector and team manger appointed by the PCB, Moin Khan faced jail in allegation of violent act with his wife. On the complain of his wife Tasneem Khan, Mion Khan arrested on 16th January, 2007 and sent to the jail after passing several days in jail he got release on guarantee. Former Pakistani batsman Ijaz Ahmed arrested due to check bounce of 1 Crore as he had to pass few weeks in the jail. According to the report recently married batsman Umar Akmal has also arrested in the Lahore for messing with the traffic warden as he had to pass some hours in the Lahore jail.
