Reko Diq Mine is considered world 5th largest gold reserve with 41.5 million tones and one of the largest copper reserve with estimated 5.9 billion tones.
Reko Diq Mine is located in Chagi district of Balochistan, it got its name from a small town which is located near this mine.
Many claims were made by government in past that soon the reserves will start generating revenue but poor management and corruption in handing over it to different firms failed to meet the promises.
If Pakistan starts mining the copper and gold it will take hundreds of years before the reserves end. It is estimated that at least that 200,000 tons of copper and 250,000 ounces of gold can be extracted from this mine annually. These figures are based on the lowest possible estimate which means that the annual production will be higher.
If Pakistani government truly utilizes its resources there will be no need for loans from IMF or World Bank.
