Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has started an awareness campaign to inform parents about unhealthy products. In Pakistan 44% children are malnourished which forced PFA to start this awareness campaign about different products.
Through social media they advertised about the products which parent serve their children such as drinks, margarine and deserts. Parents think that these products from multinational brands are healthy but in reality they do not help in fulfilling the daily nutrient requirements of children.
Tang, Sundip’s Lemopani & other product do not contain original fruit content and these products should not be given preference over natural fruits and juices which contain vitamins, nutrients and healthy fiber.
Similarly frozen desserts of Omore, Walls and Gourmet contain vegetable and are not substitutes for ice cream made from dairy products. Children should be provided healthy dairy based ice creams rather than frozen desserts.
Punjab Food authority also emphasized on these companies to clearly mention this on their product and launch dairy based ice creams which are more healthy substitutes.
One post differentiated between ‘Desi Makhan’ and Blueband which is margarine and is being sold as being a healthy alternate. People purchase Blueband thinking that it’s butter while in reality it is margarine.
Punjab Food Authority’s official twitter account is not active from last year, while the official page of Facebook is also not verified (blue tick mark) which makes it confusing for social media users to verify the content.
The website of Punjab Food Authority was also not accessible at the time of writing this article.
