DHAKA: A Pakistani woman diplomat from Bangladesh has been sent back to Pakistan after she was accused of assisting suspected extremists financially during the hearing of a case concerning espionage. A senior official of the Foreign Ministry, Bangladesh, has told that the woman diplomat, deployed as a second secretary in Pakistani High Commission Dhaka, was sent back to Islamabad.
According to the official, we were ordered to send her back to Pakistan two days ago. No contact could be put though to Pakistani High Commission for further details concerning the aforementioned diplomat, whose name was heard as Fareena Arshad in media reports earlier.
According to police, this progress was made when Idrees Shaikh, the member of Bangladesh’s banned outfit, Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen told about the contacts with Pakistani diplomat Fareena Arshad and said that Fareena gave him 380 dollars.
After reporting of Idrees Shaikh’s statement in Bangladeshi media, Pakistani mission released contradictory statement that these media reports were totally baseless and it was a conspiracy to defame the woman diplomat.
On the other hand, interior minister of Bangladesh Asad-uz-Zaman said if allegations were proved against Fareena Arshad, serious action would be taken against him under law.
