Ramadan is just few days away and the prices of fruits have been increased in different markets all around Pakistan as a welcome gesture. Even the ‘Sasta bazaars’ which are visited by low income families have become an expensive market.
Pomegranate is being sold at Rs. 280/kg while falsay is being sold at Rs. 180. Apricots (Khobani) also saw an increase in their prices and are available at a rate of Rs. 200/kg.
Customers in these markets were disappointed by the failure of government to ensure the implementation of price list. Talking with media they said that purchasing fruits at Rs 200 is impossible for a daily wager who hardly earns Rs. 500.
‘If we purchase fruits for Rs. 300 then what will we eat in dinner & lunch’ said one labor. As the holy month of Ramadan is coming nearer the price hike is haunting poor citizens.
