Pakistan become the best team in the Street Child Games and secures total 10 medals in Rio de Janeiro. The team consists of four members Mehar Ali, Mohammad Naeem, Naseer Ahmed and Salman Hussain. The team collected four gold, five silver and four bronze medals. Other competitors include India, Burundi, Egypt, Great Britain, Mozambique, Liberia, Philippines and hosts Brazil.
The team clocked 58.53sec as Salman Hussain led his team to a gold medal in the mixed relay event. Mohammad Naeem former Street Child Football World Cup star jumped 5.12m and scored gold medal in long jump competition while Ahmed took silver in the same event.
Mehar Ali, Mohammad Naeem and Naseer Ahmed won 100m and 400m event and secure gold, silver and bronze medals respectively in both events. Naeem was the fastest athlete clocking 54.91sec in the 400m sprint while Ali was at second (57.85sec) and Ahmed on third (58.65sec).
Azad Foundation official Irfan Maqbool said that the Non-Governmental Organization responsible for assembling and sending the team to Rio. He also added that they can just say that their children have showed everyone that they can pick them self up and they can win regardless of anything and even without any help from anyone
After the event Mehar Ali said that he is feeling happy and it feels like he is somebody and he just want to celebrate that.
