Geneva: 21 countries lying in the Middle East region have termed eradicating polio as their utmost priority. These countries have announced of taking initiatives to meet the objective. Pakistan is the central of the widespread disease stated the World Health Organization (WHO).
Health agency member countries of United Nations (UN) have called for anonymous resolution, demanding Pakistan to vaccinate inhabiting children across the country to tackle the disease so that it does not spread globally. Pakistan has supported the notion presented by the UN members.
UN health agency members include Afghanistan, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Tunisia, Mauritius, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, U.A.E and Oman. Pakistani people lack the awareness about the disease. The UN representatives, who had gone to the country for vaccinating the dwellers, were tortured by the people. There is need of inculcating awareness among the masses about polio.
According to WHO, 13 out of 22 children in Libya were found with polio virus disease. The organization holds Pakistan responsible for spreading the disease to the Middle East countries.
WHO health agency said that same pattern virus as found in Pakistan was detected in Egypt. The virus pattern is threat to the entire Europe.
On the other hand, the Pakistani officials in this regard said that compared to last year, more polio cases have appeared this year. Out of the 62 cases that have appeared up till now 6 have been from Punjab, 4 from Sindh and 9 cases from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. While majority of the victims were from the tribal areas, where they constituted 43 of the several polio cases.
