Karachi: Law enforcement agencies (LEAs) has claimed to arrest an engineer in the Boat Basin area of Clifton who was allegedly working for banned organization “Hizb ut-Tahrir (HT)”. he was disturbing pamphlets in Defence and Clifton area, according to police.
Owais Raheel has studied in one of the most reputable universities of the city i.e. NED university and Institute of Business Administration (IBA). According to Police Owais joined Hizb ut-Tahrir in 2007 and was assigned to target educated youngsters from Clifton and Defence in helping implementing “Khilafa” in Pakistan.

Mazhar Mashwani of the Counter-Terrorism Department of police said: “The suspect was arrested in the Boat Basin area on Tuesday under Section 11EEEE (1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act,”. Mr. Mashwani added that “He (Owais Raheel) was tasked with the distribution of pamphlets in mosques in the Clifton and Defence areas. He is also motivated by Dr Israr Ahmed (Tanzeem-i-Islami ) lectures and follows him”.
SSP Amir Farooqi of the CTD said that many suspects associated with Hizb ut-Tahrir has been arrested in past also but no link with terrorism in the city is linked with them directly.
