Karachi: The 12th death anniversary if the iconic female pop singer of Pakistan Nazia Hassan is being observed today with respect and revere across the country. However, no such events have been organized by her fans and lovers due to the occasion of blessed month of Ramazan.
Nazia, born on 3 April, 1965 in Karachi, is regarded as the only female singer who laid the foundation of pop singing in Pakistan. Her song ‘Aap Jaisa Koi’ made her a living legend at the beginning of her shining yet short career.
She was the first Pakistani to win a Filmfare Award and remains the youngest winner of a Filmfare Award in the category of Best Female Playback Singer till date. She was just 15 that time. She released seven popular albums including Disco Deewane (1981), Star/Boom Boom (1982), Hazan (1983), Young Tarang (1984), Hotline (1987), Saffron, Then he kissed me (1988) and Camera Camera (1992).
She also appeared on TV commercials of Sitara Sapna Lawn and Lipton. She made several awards to her name consisting Filmfare Best Female Playback Award, Double Platinum, Platinum, Golden Discs and Pride of Performance.
The top singer of the country died of Lung Cancer on August 13, 2000 at the age of 35 in London. She is buried at the Muslim Hendon Cemetery in London.
