A four day musical event will start from 4rth December at NAPA Karachi. The festival will feature German Leipzig String Quartet on the first day, Hamid Ali Khan on the second day, flute maestro Ustad Salamat Hussain, table maestro Ustad Bashir Khan and vocalist Akbar Ali on day two, pianist, concert performer, song writer and recording artist Kimball Gallagher on day three and Hathor Plectrum Quartet on day four.
According to Arshad Mahmud, director for programmes and administration at NAPA, whenever foreign groups arrive in Pakistan, it is hard to communicate with them without music. This festival was being held in this respect to bridge the gap of communication. According to Dr Manuel Negwer, director of Goethe Institute, NAPA was a significant stage for not just Pakistani performers but for international musicians and artists as well.[junkie-alert style=”white”] Arshad Mahmud hoped that the NAPA studnets will take inspiration from this musical event and that someday a quartet from Pakistan will also go abroad to perform [/junkie-alert]
The Leipzig String Quartet will be playing classical western music without sound systems to give the effect of music similar to Mozart’s. The Hathor Plectrum Quartet will be playing Italian movie soundtracks and some of the Pakistani soundtracks also with the NAPA students.
