Private Medical Colleges in Punjab are starting admission as per previous policy of Donation & Gift basis after Punjab Government failed to implement centralized admission policy.
It is said that private colleges are fleecing students by charging amount other than the tuition & admission fees. It is said that the administration reserve seats in the name of board members, governors and martyred doctors but later sell these seats after charging extra amount calling it ‘Donation & gift’.
The private colleges & universities are also over charging students by other over heads such as library, mosque and classroom charges.
In Punjab 20 government colleges and 51 private medical colleges are established with 3,600 & 5,200 seats. Because of the corrupt policies of private colleges many deserving students fail to get admission on merit basis.
Last year Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) introduced new policy for medical colleges under which provincial government were asked to regulate the admission by implementing a uniform policy.
Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif announced that his government will be the first to implement this policy. Punjab Government advertised for the admission test which was held in University of Health Sciences. Around 7,000 students from private sector applied but the merit list was not published.
