Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is losing billions each year because of its mismanaged policies regarding the alternate energy sector which it tried to promote in recent years.
It is being reported that government could have earned Rs. 51.19 billion from wind energy projects but it decided to outsource these projects to private companies which are now paying only Rs. 2.69 billion to KPK government, resulting in a loss of 48.5 billion.
The provincial government privatized wind corridor projects of 1461 megawatt. The private companies will pay Rs. 0.4/unit which means a total of Rs. 2.69 billion.
Similarly the province is suffering huge losses because of the old contracts and agreements according to which electricity is being sold at lower cost to central departments such as WAPDA which distributes this electricity to other provinces.
