Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is the second biggest restaurant chain which is available in 20,000 locations and in 123 countries, but do you know how KFC started its business?
Col. Sanders the owner of KFC Was only 6 years old when his father died, which forced his mother to work and he was left to take care of his siblings, this is how he learnt cooking.
In 1930 he started to serve food to travelers at a gas station in Kentucky, his unique recipe made him famous after which he started to sell the right of his recipe to others for a royalty, this was the start of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). But at that time KFC only had one franchise and other restaurants sold KFC chicken and Sanders received royalty.
After a loss Col Sanders was forced to sell his franchise in 1956 and started to focus on his royalty business. In 1965 Sanders finally agreed to sell his rights for $2 million ($16 million in 2017). This contract gave rights to KFC to open franchises around the world which made it a brand which we know today.
