London: Jordanian National Paralympic Committee has pulled three of its athletes facing sexual assault charges out of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. The three athletes were arrested on Monday in Northern Ireland, where Jordan’s Paralympic squad is training before the games open next week.
The three men, Faisal Hammash, Omar Sami Qaradhi and Motaz Al-Junadi are charged with sex offences in Antrim, two of whom compete in wheelchairs, are all members of the Jordanian Paralympics power-lifting team. All of them had returned to Jordan and will not be representing their country this year.
According to the details, Faisal Hammash, 35, has been pulled out of the games on charges of two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, Omar Sami Qaradhi, 31, with three counts of sexual assault and one of voyeurism while Motaz Al-Junadi, 45, faces one charge of sexual assault.
However, the Jordanian embassy has granted bail sureties of £500 ($793 with a surety of £5,000 ($7937) for each player. The case had been suspended and the judge considered the bail applications.
