Procedure to File Tax Returns Online in Pakistan
Basic Knowledge
Before filing tax returns online, you should first have to check whether your income comes within the minimum salary range on which tax is applied. According to the orders of Government of Pakistan, those who are earning yearly income of Rs. 4 Lacs or above, they should have to pay income tax on that amount. So you must have to check amount which you should have to pay as tax before filing tax returns online.
Filing Tax Returns Online (For Individuals)
- Note that the Government of Pakistan has make this procedure easy with making CNIC No. as NTN number, and you can use your CNIC number as NTN number, but without any dashes or space.
- First of all, get your registration number and password through e-Enrollment procedure of FBR. Visit Official Website of FBR to get your registration number and password.
- Now you should select “Registration for Unregistered Person”, in case you don’t have your registration account. After inserting the required information, you will get your registration number and valid password through email to login your account and start further procedure. This procedure may took few days.
- After getting registration number and password, login your account from the main page of website, and file your wealth statement.
- For a person whose income comes from salary, they would have to file income tax returns and wealth statement. You can get further details from the Website of FBR.

Filing Tax Returns Online (For Companies)
- If you are filing tax returns of your company or firm, you must need NTN number, which can be obtained online from the E-registration portal of FBR.
- Now select E-Enrollment for Registered Person or E-Enrollment for Unregistered Person.
- Provide required details including Date of Birth, CNIC Number, Residential Address and Contact details.
- Now select Authorized Representative u/s 172 and Self, if you are filing it by yourself.
- Select “Save Registry” option and then mention NTN number of your employer in case when if you are an employee. Provide details of your business if you are businessman.
- Now take a Print of this application and sign it.
- If you have NTN number from your previous employer, then you will get notification. Use your CNIC number to clear your doubts.
- After this, you will get NTN number through email in the next 2 days.
- Attach paid electricity bill, salary certificate and copy of CNIC with the printed application after receiving NTN number and visit RTO office along with the application.
- Now, you will get your NTN certificate.
