Getting angry is not something which we should be ashamed of because almost everyone becomes angry on one or another occasion, the problem is how to control our anger from transforming in physical or verbal abuse?
Anger is usually accompanied by other emotions, such as many people become angry on even small things if they have failed to achieve some targets, other people if depressed will become angry on minor issues. If you face similar situation try to channelize your emotions, if you failed your target become motivated to try again, if you are depressed then visit some old friends.
If an act, a mistake or anything makes you angry then divert your mind and think not to react, neither verbally nor physically. The thinking of not reacting itself is a good remedy to control the anger.
Finally remember that everyone makes mistake. How will you expect others to react to you on your mistakes? Just do what you expect others to do to yourself.
