Marawi is a historic muslim city from Philippines which is destroyed by the national army while leading an operation against Maute group & international fighters linked with ISIS. The city is located in Mindanao region which was once a muslim majority area but now have only few muslim majority cities & towns.
On 23rd May Philippines army led an operation which faced opposition from local fighters. Initially the government claimed that there are only 100+ fighters but later the figure was increased when the army failed to recapture the city.
For the weeping hearts and for the destroyed city, we shall rise. #Marawi

It has been 5 months when the siege & war started. At least 1,000 people have died including many civilians, 200,000 people from the city have become refugees and major part of the city destroyed.
It is believed that the Philippines government used excess force which resulted in complete destruction of the city. Many believe that fighters were able to take control of the city only because the army chose to retreat rather than defending the city.
