After a successful study which was revealed in journal ‘Biomaterials’ scientists hope they are near to grow heart tissues through vegetables such as spinach.
A team of scientists successfully used the veins of spinach to transport red dye which worked similarly like the small heart arteries that carry blood and oxygen.
The turning of spinach leaf into a working heart is considered a milestone in the field of creating human organs which remains a difficult task even after years of research and experiments because of the difficulties involved.
Researchers believe that this technique can be used to grow artificial layers of heart tissue in patients who suffered heart attacks which destroyed parts of their heart tissues.
The way plant works to circulate liquid in their leaves is quite different from how human veins and arteries work but it is hoped that this breakthrough is a step forward.
