Karachi: One in four Pakistanis lose their lives to heart and lung diseases every year. Poor lifestyle choices, pollution and genetic factors mean that these diseases are becoming increasingly common in the country.
However, the recent introduction of new surgical techniques, diagnostic procedures and potential stem cell based therapies in Pakistan is opening up a range of safer, quicker and more effective ways to treat these diseases.
Aga Khan University’s 20th National Health Sciences Research Symposium focusses on the potential of these innovations in heart and lung medicine by exploring the full spectrum of challenges and opportunities in the field.
The three-day event will explore a variety of themes relevant to Pakistan’s society and its future. These include the burden, impact and social consequences of heart and lung disease; challenges in introducing new treatment options at our hospitals; as well as innovative medical devices and techniques that are saving lives every day.
Members of the media are cordially invited to the event.
