Lahore: The City district government has decided to rename city’s famous Shadnam Chowk after legendary Indian freedom fighter Bhagat Singh who was hanged till death at the same place, BBC Urdu reported Thursday. The decision came during Singh’s 105th birth anniversary celebrations on September 28.
According to the report, several parties as well as members of the civil society had been demanding that the chowk be renamed “Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk, Lahore“ as it was the place where Singh was hanged to death on March 23, 1931 by the British government.
Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary celebrations in Lahore were organized by Bhagat Singh Memorial Society Pakistan that consisted a documentary screening, speeches on his life and ideology. Cake cutting ceremony was also held at Shadman Chowk at his birth anniversary.
