The Pakistani film industry has been criticized by senior film and television actress Bahar Begum who believes that the film industry is not showing signs of improving form its current state. Speaking on Sunday at the Karachi Press Club she said she was pessimistic about the future of the industry because the people involved were not making practical efforts to rectify the situation but were only interested in talking.
She compared today’s situation to that during her time when the film industry was at its peak. She said that the passion which was present in that time was missing from the film industry today and the people were unprofessional and only interested in making money. She also blamed the people involved in the film industry for not trying to improve themselves and accuse them of being responsible for the industries’ current state. She said that the world had expanded but we were still limited to the ‘Gandasa Culture’.
Bahar Begum has been related to the industry for almost 35 years with more than 600 films under her name. She is still committed to the industry saying that an artist never retires but admitted that she could not adjust in the current environment because it had changed a lot.
