Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) is known because of huge housing project initiatives for government employees in Islamabad and other cities of Pakistan. Like other government institutions corruption and irregularities are also part of FGEHF.
The Auditor General of Pakistan found irregularities of Rs. 228 billion in two housing projects of FGEHF in Islamabad. It was found that by violating the orders of Prime Minister huge loss was imposed during plot allotments.
Prime Minister asked the foundation not to prioritize, subsidize or fix quota for any group, service or organization but the foundation failed to do so. The directives of Prime Minister were ignored and 12% quota was fixed for superior courts, employees of the foundation, journalists, media workers, IB & for other ministries.
The reason why PM asked not to prioritize or fix quota was because each organization and department has their own housing schemes and foundations.
Auditor General also observed that the development work which was awarded to Frontier Works Organization (FWO) was also given at higher rates and this caused an additional loss of Rs. 15.12 billion.
The committee which was responsible for accepting proposals accepted the FWO proposal though other proposals were better. FWO was not even registered with Pakistan Engineering Council which was a prerequisite for awarding the construction work.
