Karachi: Farooq Sattar, MQM’s National Assembly member and former mayor of the party would be the electing candidate for the mayor ship, sources have learnt. Contesting MQM candidates for mayor and deputy mayor ship has been released to the London secretariat.
However, final selection for the position would be done by the party’s Chief, Altaf Hussain. He would announce the names of the elected representatives. Nominees for the mayor ship include Dr. Sagheer Ahmed, Waseem Akhtar and others. For the deputy mayor ship position, names of National Assembly members, Khushbakht Shujaat and Nasreen Jalil are being considered.
Inside sources of the party say that no result has been achieved pertaining to the final selection of the candidates. Co-ordination is made among the party members to reach the decision.
The candidates considered for the election position have long been associated with the party. Dr. Sagheer Ahmed and Farooq Sattar are members of the MQM Co-ordination Committee. Farooq Sattar had served as Provincial Minister in the Sindh Cabinet for Local Bodies. At the age of 23; Dr. Farooq Sattar was elected as mayor of Karachi by MQM. He remained in position from 1987 to 1992.
