Social Media giants are using techniques similar to casinos to make teenagers addicted to using their apps and messengers, reveals ex Google employee Tristan Harris.
Tristan Harris said that Twitter allows user to slowly increase their follows, snapchat the most messenger among teenagers and the introduced a feature ‘streak’. It shows the number of days in which you engaged with your friends in a row.
Similarly Facebook introduced games which gives rewards slowly after each stage and level, this is to make you addict, he revealed. They are on a competition to engage and hook us into their apps and they have been successful in doing so. Facebook & Twitter notifications are part of it, always asking us to do check something.
Tristan Harris said that these features are affecting the ability of our children and teenagers. Rather than introducing something which is beneficial they are introducing things which will help them in addicting our next generation.
