Drone strike in the tribal area of Miramshah, carried out on November 29 left three killed, including one of the ex-NED university student. The strike was targeted aimed to kill the associated, suspected Punjab Taliban members.
The drone hit the residential compound of the tribal area. Three got killed while one was injured as a result. One of the suspects, identified as Abdur Rehman, the NED University of Science and Technology student was expelled in 2008 by the administration due to his attendance issues in the third year semester. He was enrolled as a student in the year 2004-05 batch.
The deputy registrar Arshad Hassan explains, failure of Rehman to provide appropriate explanation for his absence despite two times prior notice resulted him in expulsion. ‘Students less than 75 % can not be permitted to appear in exams as per the university rule’, said the administration official. ‘He was an active member of Islami Jamiat-e-Taliba (IJT) ‘recalled Javed Aziz, the university registrar.
The killed young man is said to have associations with Islami Jamiat-e-Taliba (IJT). Few of his mates have spoken of his friendly terms with boys elder then him.’ Often he would leave in between the lectures and hang out with non-university guys,’ told one of Rehman’s mates on anonymity.
IJT has however declined to accept association of Rehman with the party. One of the IJT spokesman said,’ it is mere a propaganda by media against the party’.
Rehman lived in North Nazimabad of Shadman Town. His funeral was held in North Karachi. IJT refuses to accept the association of the young slain man with the party. But, the close associates of Rehman suggest him to be an IJT worker.
